ABOUT ASPHALT SHINGLE ROOFING IN NORTHERN ARIZONA
Here in the mountains of Arizona, shingles must be resistant to wind, rain, and other types of severe weather. There are many manufacturers of shingles, including GAF, Malarkey, Certainteed, Owens Corning, and more. Our choice for the Prescott, Prescott Valley, Chino Valley, and Dewey area is typically GAF – they hold up very well with the wind, rain, and sunlight we get here. Of course, we may be biased as we are one of their Master Elite Contractors. We can offer you some great long-term extended warranties when we install a roof using their products.
THE GAF WARRANTIES
As mentioned above, we can offer GAF’s best warranties. To achieve this, we had to undergo training, testing, and then prove years of experience and skill in installing their shingles before they back a roofing company.
We offer two main warranties for them – their Silver Pledge and their Golden Pledge.
The Silver Pledge warranty provides a 10 year workmanship, 50 year material warranty, non-prorated. In order to be eligible for this warranty, we must install at least four different GAF products on your roof – normally for us, this includes their synthetic underlayment, their Pro-Start starter shingles, their Timberline HDZ shingles, and their Z-ridge. Almost every roof we do is eligible for this warranty – we also like to also install an ice and water barrier in your valleys and around penetrations to ensure your roof is watertight.
The Golden Pledge warranty provides a 25 year workmanship, 50 year material warranty, non-prorated. With this system, we must install at least five GAF products on your roof –Â their synthetic underlayment, ice and water barrier around penetrations and in all valleys, their Pro-Start starter shingles, their Timberline HDZ shingles, and their Z-ridge. We can also install their venting in lieu of any of these.
Their warranties can be transferred one time to a new owner of your house, which may be a selling point for any future buyers, or, if you plan to leave your house to your family, a benefit for them.
Upon completion of your roofing project, we will register your roof with GAF and you will receive a warranty certificate showing your warranty with them. If you have a leak, it’s covered – if you think your shingles are prematurely wearing, that’s also covered.Â
THE SHINGLE ROOF NEAR PRESCOTT
An asphalt shingle roof is composed of a couple layers of materials. First, if you have existing roofing, we tear that off and clean the entire deck as well as replace any sheeting that is rotten.Â
At that point, we will install new drip edge in white, black, or brown to coordinate with the colors of the shingles as well as your particular house.
Then, we will install ice and water barriers like GAF WeatherWatch in your valleys and around roof penetrations, and depending on your elevation, on all the eaves of the house. Especially in the mountains around Prescott, Flagstaff, and surrounding areas, ice and water can build up and force their way under shingles in these areas, so it’s important that a self-adhered underlayment is there to drain anything that makes its way under.
From there, we install a synthetic underlayment on the main areas of your roof, like GAF FeltBuster. A synthetic underlayment is superior to the old felt that was commonly used as it will not dry up and crack like felt will.
From there, the shingles are installed on your roof, starting from the eaves and working up the roof. Each course of shingles is lapped over the previous course and nailed down.
Once the shingles are all on, the ridge is installed to complete your roofing system.
